What Is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) product that can be injected underneath your skin to add volume and smooth out wrinkles. PLLA encourages your body to produce more collagen, a naturally occurring protein that supports and maintains your skin’s resilience.
Sculptra® helps patients attain a naturally youthful complexion and long-lasting improvements to their looks. Unlike other fillers, the results of Sculptra® appear gradually over time, so patience is key.
Am I a Good Candidate for Sculptra®?
Most healthy adults who want to correct shallow or deep midface wrinkles are good candidates for Sculptra®. People who have a history of hypertrophic or keloid scarring, bleeding disorders, or allergies to any ingredient in Sculptra® may be advised to pursue other treatment options.
The Sculptra® Treatment Session
The Sculptra® will be administered in our office. After the treatment area is cleansed, it will be numbed with a topical anesthetic to prevent any discomfort. Next, a fine cannula or needle will be used to inject Sculptra® underneath the skin. The procedure typically takes thirty minutes to an hour to complete.
After a Sculptra® Treatment
Once the treatment session is complete, no downtime or recovery time will be needed. You may experience some itching, swelling, redness, and tenderness at each injection site; these symptoms should gradually subside and resolve within seven days. Any initial plumping you see is likely to be a combination of swelling and water mixed into the treatment.
You may be instructed to elevate your head for at least four hours and to gently massage the treatment area for five minutes five times per day. You should perform these massages for five days in a row. On the first full day after treatment, you should avoid extreme heat, direct exposure to the sun, and strenuous exercise. Avoid using retinols or any exfoliating acids for at least four days, and apply a non-irritating sunscreen whenever you go outside.
Sculptra® Results
It typically takes three to six months to notice the effects of a Sculptra® treatment. Patients should see that their skin looks and feels smoother, firmer, fuller, and more resilient. Sculptra® treatments have long-lasting benefits—results can last for two or more years.
How Much Does Sculptra® Cost?
Prices for Sculptra® treatments vary based on how much of the product you need and other specifics of your procedure. Sculptra® is priced per vial or syringe, and as a rule, most clients receive one vial per decade of life per treatment.
