What is facial resurfacing?

Facial resurfacing is a procedure that uses lasers to remove the superficial, perhaps damaged, layers of skin. This allows new skin to form, helping you look younger and revitalized.

How does facial resurfacing work and what is the procedure like?

The procedure is done with a fractionated CO2 laser (DOT). Some areas may require a numbing or anesthetic solution to minimize discomfort. The laser procedure may take 30 to 45 minutes up to two hours depending on the area being treated. Dr. Carter will then bandage the area and review the aftercare instructions with you.

Who can benefit from facial resurfacing?

Any patient who wants to minimize the effects of aging, pigmentation or sun damage, acne scars or other scars can benefit from facial resurfacing. Blotches, scars, wrinkles, or aging lines can be diminished with the help of laser resurfacing.

Is facial resurfacing painful?

Many patients describe facial resurfacing like a rubber band snapping on the skin. The level of pain depends on the area being treated and the client’s pain tolerance.

What will my skin look like afterward?

Following the procedure, you may experience swelling, red, or raw skin that may peel. After a few days to a week, you may notice your skin has a lighter complexion, and sunscreen is very important. You will begin to notice your skin is smoother and tighter in 10 to 21 days, which means the new skin cells are forming during healing.

How much does facial resurfacing cost?

Facial resurfacing cost depends on the size of the area being treated and the number of laser procedures necessary to achieve your treatment goal. During your consultation at our office, we will examine you and give you an estimate.
