EARLOBE REPAIR

Damage can be corrected

What is earlobe repair?

Earlobe repair ideals with the correction, repair, and reshaping of earlobes that have been split, stretched, or are oversized.

What is done in split earlobe repair?

Torn earlobes are caused when earrings get caught and rip completely through the earlobe. This not only results in an undesirable looking ear, but also makes it impossible for the patient to wear normal earrings again. The technique for split earlobe repair is simple, painless, and can be carried out under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. After the anesthesia has taken effect, the doctor will cut away the skin that has healed on either side of the torn earlobe. The edges that are created from the incision will be sutured back together to close the split earlobe.

How long will it take for a repaired earlobe to heal?

The sutures used to close the skin during earlobe repair will usually be removed after five days. If you choose to pierce your ears again, you cannot do it directly on the scar because this tissue is weaker and will tear more easily. Request for the new piercing to be done either on the right or left side of the scar for more optimal results. Repiercing in the area should not be done for at least six months.

What is stretched earlobe repair?

Stretched earlobe repair is usually recommended when the use of ear stretchers have enlarged the holes in the ear. The method employed in stretched earlobe repair is similar to split earlobe repair. Removing the stretchers and allowing the ears to heal as much as they can on their own will facilitate the surgical earlobe repair afterwards. Much like with a split earlobe repair, this procedure can be done under local anesthesia with the surgeon suturing the stretched opening closed to resolve the unnaturally overstretched appearance of the earlobe.
